What is life coaching?

Feeling lost, stuck, or unfulfilled in your life? Maybe you're unsure of your purpose or feel like you're not reaching your full potential. For others, like me, you’ve had the stuffing kicked out of you by some shitty happenings and now you need to figure out what your next step is.

Life Coaching can help you!

Life coaching is a transformative process that helps individuals gain clarity, overcome obstacles, and achieve their goals. It's an empowering journey of self-discovery that allows you to tap into your inner strength and create the life you want.

But what exactly is life coaching? Simply put, it's a support system that provides guidance and accountability to help you identify and accomplish your goals. Unlike therapy which focuses on healing past wounds, coaching looks towards the future with an emphasis on growth and achievement.

The power tools used in life coaching are powerful questions, deep listening, and the bedrock belief that you are more powerful and wise than you realize.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Life Coaching some toxic positivity gobbly gook?

Absolutely no! Coaching is a proven process to help you get unstuck. Coaching has its basis in positive psychology and has withstood research’s scrutiny for showing positive, measurable effects.  However, not everyone who calls themselves a coach is a coach. Keep on reading…

How do I find a skilled coach?

The profession of coaching is still in its infancy.  Which means anyone can call themselves a life coach. While I'm not fond of government regulations, they do exist for a purpose...to keep people from harming others.  Such as someone calling themselves a coach and then trying to act as a trained therapist to the detriment of the client. I encourage you to interview any perspective coach.

Ask about their training and their understanding of coaching.  Do they have any certification or credentials?  Ask if they themselves are being coached. (For the record, I have received certification in both basic and advanced professional coaching.  I receive coaching from a coaching mentor as well.) Finally, ask for references from former or current clients.

I completed my basic and advanced life coaching training through Yavapai College, Prescott, AZ.

What does a coaching session look like with you?

My coaching is a little different. After the initial greetings, we usually start with four deep “4x4” breaths before jumping into the session. While “text book” coaching is the backbone of my practice, I am huge on somatic work as well. Somatic work is a holistic approach to healing that focuses on the connection between mind and body. By improving your awareness of bodily sensations, you can release tension, reduce pain, and cultivate a sense of calm and well-being.

I don’t give advice but may occasionally share from my own experience, if it seems helpful at the moment. (I will ALWAYS ask your permission. Remember this is all about YOU.) And homework? Oh yeah. Homework can really help integrate what happens in a session. And integration is the secret sauce to making impacting, sustainable changes. The homework may be something as simple as writing a post-it note to remind yourself that you are loved… to reading poem or a book.

Will I need to sell a kidney to pay for a life coach?

The cost for coaching services runs the gamut. Depending on your needs, it can run from a donation basis to six figures. Like any professional services you seek - you must consider the value along with the value it will add to your life.  Coaching brings the opportunity to improve in both measurable and nuanced ways - from gaining clarity in your business to improving relationships with your loved ones.

Well, that’s great Theresa… what are your rates?

My rates are $75 for a one-hour session or $220 for four sessions (I’ll do the math for you, that comes down to $55/hour.) We meet weekly or bi-weekly.

Life coaching and spiritual direction are both powerful tools for personal growth and development. However, they serve very different purposes. Life coaching is designed to help you set and achieve specific goals, whether that be career changes, facing health issues, or relationship challenges. Spiritual direction, on the other hand, is focused on helping you connect with your inner wisdom and spirituality.

Yes, there is a lot of overlap between the two. And often in session, topics of conversation can move from the practical to the existential. If you're looking for clarity and guidance on your life's path, consider trying out spiritual direction. With its emphasis on deep reflection and connection with the divine, it can help guide you towards a more fulfilling existence.

I am a graduate of the Benet Hill Monestery Global Spiritual Direction Program.

What are the rates for spiritual direction?

Spiritual direction sessions are monthly, one-hour sessions and are the same as my coaching rates: $75 for one session or $220 for four sessions.
